Amara Name Meaning

Gender: Female

Origin: Indian

Meaning: Eternal

1. Meaning of the name “Amara”

The name comes from Nigeria – it means grace, mercy, kindness, in the native Igbo language. Naming an Amara girl Amara is like calling her Grace in English; Carissa in Latin or Hannah / Anna from Hebrew (all means grace, also likes to support).

Amara is the latest among the gracious names of Muslims and people of the world, and a lovely way to honor an African heritage.

Amara is also a name used among Spanish speakers that is probably related to the Latin verb, am am, which means love for love (although it is known that the word amara is both Latin and Italian words mean bitter – see Maou).

Many people (erroneously) seem to think that Amara comes from Greek language meaning “eternal, immortal, undying” – although we uncovered zero evidence to support this claim. However, “Amar” (अमर) in Hindi means “immortal”, therefore Amara could be considered the female equivalent of Amar.

Whatever meaning you want to give your daughter’s name, Amara is a lovely choice. This name is so novel and so beautiful. The name Amara is the name of an Italian, Greek, African girl meaning “grace or bitterness”.

Amara is the Italian word meaning bitter, from the same root as Mary and Miriam. It has distinct origins in West Africa as a name that means Islamic grace in the Igbo language. These two meanings are the best-known, but Amara is also a Sanskrit name meaning immortal and a Mongolian name meaning peaceful.

Strong, attractive, and stylish, Amara is a true multicultural choice enjoying some popularity in both the US and the UK. Amara is an extremely popular name, jumping to No. 2 in the first half of 2018. With so many things for it, this unusual choice could be Amanda or even Mary of tomorrow.
